Actor Director Sandesh Kulkarni, best known for his work in the Hindi and Marathi film industry, is in the news for sharing his depression woes.

The renowned actor, who’s currently receiving accolades for his power-packed performance as ACP Tawde in the latest Amazon Prime web series ‘Mumbai Diaries 26/11’, has opened up about the struggles of shooting for the challenging role while battling clinical depression in real life.

The seasoned actor recalled his challenges during the shoot while going through clinical depression. He also talked about the unpleasant experiences of playing an angry hotheaded Tawde onscreen while being devastated by depression from the inside.

Shoot and the Struggle

Sandesh reminiscences the first day of the shoot when his condition was like a deer that was frozen with fear in front of the headlights.

“It was the entry scene where ACP Tawde comes running down the stairs and stops to talk to Dr Subramanium. When you are in depression all your faculties are not sharp. Especially if there is rush. Also, the sudden running down the stairs accentuated my vertigo. I just got blank and forgot my lines as I stood frozen on the stairs,” the actor recalled.

It was a real battle to complete the shoot with the required dialogue delivery. He remembered struggling to take a deep breath and gather all his mental energy to proceed with the scene.

Sandesh is not alone

It is the not the first time people associated with the entertainment industry have complained of mental health problems. Back in 2015, ace actor Deepika Padukone had talked openly about her battle with depression.

Another leading actor and film producer, Anushka Sharma has talked at length about how anxiety and depression had troubled her when she was moving ahead with her career in Bollywood. “Depression is a prison where you are both the suffering prisoner and the cruel jailer,” she had quoted.

Similarly, others like Varun Dhawan, Karna Johar and even King Khan have come in the open to talk about mental health conditions. “Due to the shoulder injury and the suffering, I had got into a depression mode, but now I am out of it. I feel happy and boosted with energy,” said Shah Rukh talking about his struggle with depression.
